杖道
Jōdō
The way of the staff
Overview
Jōdō is the art of the short staff (jō, 128 cm), developed by Musō Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi in the early 17th century following his legendary encounter with Miyamoto Musashi.
At Seishinkan, students learn the twelve Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei jōdō kata, providing a common foundation for grading and seminar participation within the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF). Students will also be introduced to the koryū of Shintō Musō-ryū Jōjutsu (神道夢想流杖術) and associated arts. Our dōjō leaders regularly travel to Fukuoka, Japan for training.
